Facades and Fading Press Release

Facades and Fading originated as a research project into
the residential architecture of San Francisco’s Victorian and
Edwardian houses. The facades, sometimes pristine and
sometimes weathered, embodied a cognisance of the city’s
physical language that spoke of geometry, colour and the
metaphysical construct of balance and harmony.

These paintings were made at Root Division, San Francisco
where Lila was a resident studio artist and the Firstdraft Depot
residency, Sydney, 2011. The works are situated within the
spiritual context of the Bay Area’s west coast consciousness
and some of its artists who explored elements of the counter-
culture and both lyrical and formal abstraction.

The show continues until November 12, 2011

The tables have turned

Lila is incredibly excited to be in the upcoming Hardware Gallery show titled: Medium Vinyl.

Some of you already know that Lila worked in a record store during the 1990s for ten years, amassing a large vinyl and cd collection. She painstakingly watched the transition of vinyl to cd and still keeps her vinyl collection in pristine condition to this day.

Each artist is given a 12 inch vinyl piece to make an artwork. The results will reveal themselves May 2010. Stay tuned for more.....

The Vilnius Project, Lithuania

Pacifica 1, 2009
Mixed media on canvas
5 x 7 inches

Pacifica 2, 2009
Collage, charcoal and pastel on paper
31 x 23 inches

After meeting Ausra Petroskiene during her Paris residency in 2007, Lila was invited to show at the Sostines oras exhibition in Lithuania, 2009. The project touched on topical news of the country each artist represented. Lila chose to highlight the ongoing topic of the Japanese slaughter of whales for commercial use and Australia's involvement to stop this practise in Japananese and Australiasian waters. Shown above are the painting and drawing she submitted for the show.
